From Dazzling Booths to Dwindling Buzz: Our Take on the Expo
Last weekend, I visited the Brevard Home & Garden Expo at the Melbourne Auditorium (625 E Hibiscus Blvd, Melbourne, FL). I found out about the event late and arrived on the final day around 1 PM — only to find many booths already packing up and a modest crowd for an expo meant to highlight Brevard’s top home improvement and outdoor living businesses.
Even so, a few vendors stood out and made the trip worthwhile. The Space Coast Trimlight booth drew attention with their permanent LED lighting displays — customizable, app-controlled, and energy-efficient, offering a solution for homeowners tired of seasonal light installations.

Over at Cornelius Electrical Contractors, they showcased not only their expertise in electrical work but also an affordable whole-home surge protector install (around $250), a service that protects appliances from unexpected power surges. Their booth — complete with a full engine display — and their founder, Michael Cornelius, left a strong impression as approachable and highly customer-focused.

Other local businesses making their mark included:
AMVET Concrete Coatings – Represented by Mitchell Clark, offering sleek, durable concrete finishes for patios and garages.
B&B Exotics Plumeria – A tropical plant supplier whose vibrant blooms brought color and life to the expo floor.
Re-Bath of Melbourne – With Brand Ambassador Allen Rolph showcasing full-service bath renovations.
SandL Construction – A home renovation and remodeling company that expressed interest in future collaborations.
All Aluminum Screening – Offering screened-in enclosures for patios and pools.
Morgan Exteriors – Not just for siding and windows, but also offering a referral program for those who connect them with new clients.
Evergreen Solar Solutions – Renewable energy specialists (owner Michael Milazzo was busy, but we plan to follow up for a deeper conversation).

Despite this lineup, the energy on the floor didn’t match the quality of the businesses present. Most vendors leaned heavily on the same pitch — cost savings and ease of use — but many of the homeowners walking the floor (mostly in their 40s and 50s) seemed disengaged. Many already knew what they were looking for or were there simply to support friends at the booths.

After speaking with the event organizers, it became clear why the expo felt underwhelming: there’s no permanent venue lined up for next year. The show needs at least 20,000 square feet of indoor, air-conditioned space with matching parking to operate effectively, and that instability makes marketing and turnout a challenge. Without a fixed location and a stronger push to attract homeowners and property investors, this event risks losing its relevance — which would be a real loss for both the vendors and Brevard’s home and garden community.

But with the right adjustments, this expo could thrive. Imagine a future Brevard Home & Garden Expo featuring more live demonstrations — from outdoor kitchen builds to sustainable landscaping tips — interactive design showcases, and hands-on sessions about solar energy, smart home upgrades, and low-maintenance yard solutions. Pair that with consistent digital and local marketing that highlights participating businesses like Space Coast Trimlight, Cornelius Electrical, B&B Exotics, and AMVET Concrete Coatings, and it could become a can’t-miss event for homeowners across the Space Coast.
